Hi
My names Dean, im from Belfast, im 30yrs old and ive been type 1 from 10yrs old. Cant beleive ive only found this site now!! Such a releif!!! The last contact I had with so many diabetics was when I was 15 years old at a camp and I was drawing actrapid and monotard into a syringe.....while trying to face atleast 3 lows/ hypos a day!!
Today I take Humalog and Lantus and I feel way more controlled over the whole situation.....bar the evils we all suffer.
My diabetes runs in the family and was contracted from my Dad. My Dad had Type 1 from the age of 18 which was contracted from his aunt "so I was told". My Dad died at the age of 43 from diabetic complications / a massive hypo in his sleep while being weened of animal insulin to synthetic insulin. He was as healthy as an athlete and had a great brain for his sympoms. I think he was let down by people who knew better.....He lived seperate from me and my mum for three weeks!!...24 December 1992 was not a great christmas for me!! Fortunatly its good to know that treatment has moved on so well in so little time. I remember when taking a BM result was done by eye and not machine......now it takes 5 seconds by a digital devive.
I really hope I havnt anoyed anyone with my rant....its just something thats tied to my condition and like to get of my chest when diabetes chat comes into question.
