Hello everyone I'm a week in so far and I have been very strict with my carbohydrate intake so far consuming less than 10g or less a day. Can anyone recommend a website that can be used as gospel as many LCHF websites conflict with one another, for example have any fruit in moderation, only have certain types of fruit, only have berries etc.

This feeling of chronic fatigue is worrying me, is this common will it lift? I'm a huge fan of weight lifting and there is no way I can hit the gym feeling like this :(.

10g is very low. Which websites have you been looking at?

I use carbs and cals... An app I have dowloaded on my iPhone. It shows photos of the selected food on a plate, so you can see / portion size, which is very important.

I don't think you can have any fruit at all on 10g carbs per day. A handful of berries is about 10g. Berries and fruit capable of been grown in the UK is often considered the lowest carb fruit. When I was on 50g carb per day I had a bowl of fruit berries, but then I cut back to 36g per day, and this meant no fruit. I have not had fruit now for 6 months. Love fruit, but can't get it in a 36g carb per day diet.

It can't be easy to have veg either at 10gr.

What's a typical day's meals for you?

Apititiete is a pain at the moment as I don't seem as hungry now the carbohydrate cravings have greatly reduced.

Typical day would consist of....

Breakfast - scrambled egg, Stilton, tomato, mushrooms and bacon.

Lunch - mushrooms with Stilton melted on top.

Dinner - chicken, avacado and broccoli

Looking at that my carbohydrates are between 15 - 20g a day.

Sounds like you are already ketogenic. Many people find when they first start very low carbing they feel rough, often flue like. But it passes, normally I believe in a few days, and most people say once you are through it, you start to feel much better, fitter and stronger. I have been ketogenic for 6 months now, but never hit the bad patch, maybe because I went low carb slowly. I am now definitely fitter and stronger.

Looking at your food intake, you certainly are low carbing, you may want to consider eating more fat, especially if you find your weight decreases. Fat will also give you energy. Many people report of constipation when very low carbing..... I eat lots of salad and veg (but no fruit) and have never been constipated.

Hopefully someone will come along soon that can give first hand experience.

You are certainly very low carb, but are you getting enough calories? You need to increase your fats and proteins to make up the deficit in calories from not eating carbs.

Thank you.
it's nice not craving for carbs, isn't it, you are in the process of keto..only a few more days to go
10g is very low and I would eat more veg, if you look up atkins induction diet online, it has free meal plans and recipes and food lists

the reason I think you are flat are a few,

the first week to a fortnight sucks anyway

not enough fat to replace the lost energy from the carbs

you may need more salt as you have cut out the junk food which is a major source and you flush fluids on LC, try a teaspoon in a glass of water and see if you feel better in a couple of hours.

I have omega 3 every day and lots of eggs, full fat dairy, love my blue cheeses. The above was an avarage day but there is lots of cheese and meat in there. Nearly forgot I have tea with double cream and no sweetener.

I'm only a week in and I had to have some chocolate nuts as I nearly fainted and they were the closest sugary thing to hand. I'm very disappointed with myself and getting confused with all the information out there. Should I try having vegetables with more carbohydrates in? I'm very close to jacking this in as it's getting to be very unbearable feeling dizzy and weak!

I'm not sure why you should be wanting to eat chocolate nuts if you're T2 on metformin. Sounds maybe you are just not gettiing enough calories. Are you testing your blood sugars?

I didn't want to eat chocolate nuts they were the closest thing near me when my legs started to go, I felt like I was going to faint so I assumed the lack of carbohydrates were the cause so I had sugar and now I feel better!

My sugar levels have sat around 5.5 all week.

Hi there :)

Jacking it in is the only option you don't have. Stick at it, try more veg for carbs, test test test. You'll get there. It's early days so don't be hard on yourself.
