New to LCHF diet

It has got to be related to the diet, in particular with your activities.
Well I don't agree, I think the Metformin is more likely as a cause of tummy trouble. The only thing I've heard of that causes tummy trouble on LCHF is having too much coconut oil etc without ramping up to it slowly.

10 out of 10 for making the effort even if the LCHF dose not work for you short term.
Your "blood glucose meter" should be your best tool to help with control on what food to eat that will agree with your great sport.
Best of luck and let us know how it all works out.

I wouldn't give up yet. The amount of time to adapt to ketosis varies enormously from person to person. It seems those who had the highest carb diets before, can have the most difficulty. It was a good 6 weeks of fatigue and other unpleasantness in my case. But I stuck it out and was rewarded with loads of energy and improved health and happiness. (I've heard of up to 8 weeks for some people.)
As for exercise, I would take it easy. If you actually had flu, you wouldn't expect yourself to be working out at the gym. Think of it that way.
Just take it step by step, keep drinking the water and taking the salt and plenty of animal fats, and otherwise take it easy. This is a long term effort, not some quick fix.
If you haven't read Volek and Phinney, it's worth doing.

Thank you I do find your words very reassuring.

Well after three and a half months I've had enough. Every time I've full fat cream, cheese, dairy etc my stomach cramps up and I'm having to keep close to the toilet due to the risk of soiling myself. I think it's safe to assume I am lactose intolerant so now I'm not sure what to do reguarding my diet, my sugars were sat at around 5 if I go back to wholegrains I can kiss that goodbye.

This LCHF diet is limiting for me so without dairy now I'm going to be misrable so it's game over. Need to look at other ways to limit my carbohydrate intake without being misrable.

I suggest you make a list of what you can eat without lactose. There will be loads of stuff.

I'm bored of this diet now and it's making me misrable the lactose intolerance fun and games was the final straw.

Have you tried the Lact, lactose-free products?

As others have said there are plenty of non-dairy fats available to you. If you list the things you like to eat, people may be able to make suggestions.

I don't think I am dairy intolerant I think I'm having problems with my Metformin SR again. I was started on a high dose of Metformin SR slowly reducing it until it was tolarable enough at 500mg twice a day, but the stomach cramps and diarrhoea are starting to come back.

I'm glad to hear you haven't got a dairy allergy..I would see the Dr about coming off of metformin, some people can't handle it. there are other oral drugs if needed.
what is your fasting BG like?

You don't have to any dairy at all on LCHF. There are so many and varied sources of fat. How do you react to butter? And ghee? as butter often is OK even for those sensitive to dairy. But then you have duck and goose fat, olive oil and coconut oil, lard and other stuff.

In your shoes I'd have made an appointment with your GP though.

I saw the diabetic nurse today and explained about the stomach cramps, diarrhoea and she wrote me a prescription for Bolamyn SR Metformin Hydrochloride. I've been suffering pretty much with the normal Metformin Hydrochloride since I was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago with the above symptoms progressively getting worser to this day. Why wouldn't they prescribe the SR variant to begin with and save me so much hassle!? What really annoys me is that I thought I was lactose intolerant or I had irratable bowel syndrome for ages.

The SR version is more expensive than the regular. Go figure.

I hope you start to feel better soon and can enjoy a varied diet again.

Scrap that I feel worser on the Bolamyn SR Metformin Hydrochloride after only one dose I'm silly dizzy, bloated, frequently having diarrhoea and my rear passage (no joke) feels numb what the hell have I put in my body. I'm never putting Metformin in my body again.

Metformin over three years progressively did this to me to the point I didn't make the loo on a day out. Now on gliclazide so determined to make Lchf work but need a starter guide can anyone help?

Cracker, I've never taken a medication for diabetes. And while I did read the entire thread, I don't know your history.

Is it still standard practice to put ALL type 2 diabetics on Metformin at diagnosis because the option of the LCHF diet still isn't considered? That's what happened to me in 2004, so I opted for no treatment, which was a poor choice on my part. Had I been told about the LCHF then, I would have done that.

Was starting a medication your only option at the time because medication was your only option? Or were you started on medication because that's what they always do in ALL cases?

You know the consequences of taking the medication. What would be the consequence of reducing or stopping the medication, and how would that be done, if only on a temporary basis to see what happens? I think this is an important conversation to have with your doctor.

Not speaking about diabetes, it's been my experience that stopping a medication is sometimes the only way to determine if it's helping you or hurting you. And in my experience, it can go either way.

Maybe you really do need to take medication, but the dosage needs to be adjusted or something else needs to be added. Or maybe you need to try a different medication. Or maybe, now that you're on the LCHF diet, you don't need it.

Wish I had a crystal ball and could tell you. Sorting these things out is a process of trial and error. I encourage you to engage your doctor in conversation about this again.
