I am new to testing blood sugar myself.
I was diagnosed with type 2 in June I've been on metformin twice daily since.
I have got home from work tested and it's 10.2 I tested again 5 minutes later and 9.5, I had some lunch (salad) about 12.30pm
Is it normal to have readings in this range all my others have been in the 7-8 readings

You need to be a bit more organised with your testing. Random testing doesn't really tell you very much.
Testing immediately before you eat then 2 hours after first bite will help you more than a few random ones. If you do this, and keep a food diary including portion sizes and everything on your plate then record your levels alongside, you can see at a glance what that food has done to your levels. You need to concentrate first on the actual rise from before eating to after. It is important to keep that rise down as far as you can. Any more than 2mmol/l and there are too many carbs in that meal, preferably less than 1.5mmol/l. You will soon see some patterns emerging on your food diary and be able to tweak some of your meals. This is called eating to your meter.

Thank you for that. Nobody has told me what I need to do, what to avoid apart from take your tablet and have another blood test in 3 months.

I have read about the low carbs which I have really cut down on

I will start testing on a regular basis and keep a record.

Thank you again appreciate your advice

You have done the right thing in getting a meter, and will soon get the hang of what it can do for you. The important thing is to learn from it by looking at the results and the food and analysising matters.

Keep reading round the forums, and ask whatever questions you like.

By the way, your status in your profile says "don't have diabetes". It would help everyone if you changed that to Type 2. :)

I would be lost without my meter, though now a days, I more or less know what I can and can not eat.
I do tend to test more frequently if I Don, t feel well.
You did well to get a meter and once you get the hang of testing regular, it will be second nature.
I get/had very little help from my surgery regarding what to eat etc.
I got/get all my help from here because we have all had to start somewhere.
Ask any questions and there will always be a mod or member that will know the answer

level over 7.5 measured more times fasting is diabetes...

levels over 6.5 measured many times is in the pre-diabetic area...

in this scale you can see what are the truely non-diabetic levels... namely the green area, .... all the red coloured area is the diabetic area.. and the yellow the pre-diabtic area/ level while fasting
