Hey fellow diabetics.
I'm a type1 and have found the best answer to diabetes management since I was diagnosed in 1994 (26 years ago) The freestyle libre helped lower my Hba1c from 9.6% down to 6.5% in 6 months. My ultimate goal is to get to 5.7% but I know this will involve super self control and management which has never been my forte until the introduction of the Libre.
So I'm at a safer level now, so goal ticked ish. My next goal is weight management. I am tall at 6ft 4in and since June 2018, my weight increased from 85kg to 100kg. I can hide it by sucking in, but it's not great for the mental health.
My wife started a fasting diet 2 weeks ago which she has since dropped but I have settled into nicely. It involves a 16 hour fast from 20:00 till 12:00 noon. Breakfast is no more, but a jab (either novo rapid or Fiasp) is still required to compensate for the morning natural rise.
I'm loving the regime, as I can function as normal with work, exercise, family life etc; admittedly I feel the hunger, but in a good way and ultimately have started shedding the weight. So far I've lost 5kgs in 2 weeks (I know right!) My belly tyre is reducing and I've had comments on a slimmer face.
It's working a treat. The Libre enables me to effortlessly monitor/micro manage my levels and inject/eat accordingly. I ensure I carry hypo treatments, but seldom have needed it. It does have 1 draw back though; initially I had 'hangry' episodes, but this soon subsides and you'll be surprised at how much you can cut out.
I felt confident with taking on my journey mainly due to my 26 years experience. Please don't just jump in; get advice and most importantly learn how you tick.
My next goal is to get on the waiting list for the revolutionary Smart insulin patch. Ive been ready to oust the injections for the last 26 years and if it works in pigs, I'm keen as a runner bean!!! No tubes or bulky gadgets, just a bit bionic but my arm is firmly in the air for UK human trials.
