Well had a routine urine test and was told that there was glucose and ketones in my urine. I went for a blood test and I now await the results. Also had the blood preasure test afterwards and found it to be a bit high. Wow after telling me that what do you expect.

I also bought a lifestyle lite glucose tester to see what my blood sugar was( Also to prove them wrong and make myself better). Used it last night before bed and got a reading of 20.9 mmol/l from my forearm and took a few more from my finger and got it down to 17 mmol/l from a finger tip. I tried it again this morning and got 14 mmol/l from my finger tip. As a measure we tried it on my girlfriend and her readings were 5.2 mmol/l last night and 4.8 mmol/l this morning.

What gets me is that I had a test a few weeks ago that came up as 8 mmol/l.

Now I don't know what to do, I know that the results glucose results aren't good.

What to do next? What can I eat that will reduce my glucose levels?

God I'm scared, what do I do. I'm terrified and really stressed about this all.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. I'm new to diabetes too but can tell you that you have come to the right place. The best thing to do is to have a browse through and I'm sure you will find the answers to your questions. If you don't then just ask and someone will come to the rescue.

The way to reduce your glucose levels and get them stable is to eat low carb foods. Fergus is our resident expert there. There is a post in "ask the experts" from someone just like you and Fergus has answered there.

Everyone on here has been in the same position as you at one time or another and understands exactly how you feel. It's not all doom and gloom but you are perfectly entitled to panic and worry (we've all done it!!!!).

Hope you feel better soon

Regards caitycakes

Although it's not yet a formal diagnosis, those facts, suggest you are a type 1 diabetic. High fasting sugar suggests diabetes and ketones suggest T1
You need a doctor, preferably a diabetes consultant. In this health region, T2s see GPs and T1s see the consultant at the hospital.
Your giirlfriend's 5.2 and 4.8 are the non-diabetic glucose levels. anything above that is causing you damage. High circulating gucose levels are toxic to many systems.

PS
If you get a formal diagnosis of T1 diabetes, you will need insulin. In the meantime, cut out carbohydrates, which will bring those numbers down a bit.
Do you have the other usual symptoms?
Thirst and a constantly full bladder and weight loss.
Are you young?
Make sure you ask for a glucode tolerance test for diagnosis. They often miss that out nowadays, but it's the best. If they'll do a c-peptide test too, you'll get information on whether you're dealing with T1or T2
I never had either of those, but since the treatment is working 5 years later, I think they guessed right
diabetes T2

Not urgent, because nothing's going to change in a hurry, but it needs dealing with. In the meantime try lower carb living. look at the "Success Stories" thread. you'll see that most of the people on this forum, who have good diabetes control are low carbers.
If when the time comes, you're told the routine"eat lots of complex carbohydrates with every meal" just remember, we live with this 24/7/365. so maybe we DO KNOW BETTER.
Also if the diagnosis is T1 diabetes, Get yourself a copy of "Dr. Bernsteins Diabetes Solution" Try for secondhand on Amazon, It's textbook price.
That book contains pretty much all a diabetic needs to know and is written by a specialist doctor who is himself diabetic.
