Hello, my name is Carolyn and I am a 59 year old with Type 2 Diabetes...for years I have been taking meds, pills, injections, you name it I have taken it...the only thing that has ever helped with my blood glucose levels is a VERY low carb diet!! Here is my problem, when I lived alone I feel like it was easier than now...I have my 17 year old grandson living with me. Also, we share a house with one of my co-worker's and her son...it is IMPOSSIBLE to maintain the very low carb diet in our house so, I am hoping that maybe by joining this forum and hopefully meeting people that have some of the same issues as me, I will be able to maintain this very difficult lifestyle...???

Please if you have any advice or ways to stay strong I would LOVE to hear from you...

Thank you so much for listening, I hope you all have a good day ...

Hello, and welcome, @ctrasente .
Good that you have had some success with very low carb diet. I can understand teenage boys have enormous appetites. Do you mean the boys are eating your low carb foods? I have had that issue in the past. Or is there some other reason you are feeling unable to continue to maintain your low carb way of eating?

No one in my family eats even lowish-carb, in fact they believe low-carb is unhealthy no matter what I say. I admit that I hide food in my room that I don't want others eating. I have my own small fridge in my room as well on the excuse that I need this for my insulin which has to be kept within a certain temperature range. The main kitchen fridge seems constantly open after school hours by hungry kids who will stand there and eat with the fridge door open. I'm the grandmother so I don't say anything. I rarely eat dinner with them, on my daughter's request, because the grandkids act up when I'm at table, which I'm more than fine with because then I don't have to eat what I don't want to and nobody else is the wiser. The rewards of eating low-carb are worth way more to me than certain tastes and the resulting scary highs and lows.

Hello and welcome @ctrasente

It may be helpful if you can identify the challenges that having other in the house are having on your low carb life style.

My husband is supportive but not low carb. He did reduce his carb intake and was low carb when I was first diagnosed but I no longer need him to be low carb. So sometimes we have different meals and sometime I just have the low carb part and he has the complete meal. An example is he may add rice or bread or something while I may just have grill fish or chicken or something else.

Welcome.
