Hi, I am new to this website. My brother came to visit me today. He is 43 years old. He told me he has not been able to quench his thirst for the past few months and is needing to wee alot. He is also falling asleep at the drop of a hat and has lost weight. He was not overweight to start with. I have a blood glucose monitor and checked his bms on three occasions today. Readings were 22.1mmols, 24.2 mmols and 22.7 mmols. This is the first time he has spoken to anyone about his symptoms and has not seen a gp or anyone who can diagnose him with diabetes. I know the blood sugar monitor is working correctly, as I checked my sister's levels and they were 5mmols. Do you think he needs to go to the walk in centre or contact his own gp after the bank holiday? I am so worried as he is going out for a curry and for several (usually about 7 pints at a weekend) beers. (I am not diabetic myself and would value your advice). Thank you.

Yes he definitely needs to see his GP. Take some more readings if you can maybe before and a couple of hours after, meals and get him to take those alomg with him. That should help them to make a quick diagnosis .

He is very lucky to have you looking out for him. It may not be diabetes, of course ,although it sounds like it but only the doctor can diagnose.
Unless he is very ill wtih it I shouldn't bother with the walk-in centre. he would be better seeig his own GP. I don't think they would be able to do all the necessary tests.
