Hello, I'm a 21 year old female with type 1 diabetes and have been for about 8 years now.
I'm coming on here to hopefully find people like myself as I know no one else with type 1 diabetes. I'm keen to speak to people and compare stories and maybe get some advise on getting back to maximum health as I've slipped slightly lately and am starting to struggle.
I'd really appreciate a message and just a friendly chat.

Hi, I'm 36 and new to diabetes (diag'd las week). you'll likely to be teaching me on how to get to regular health before i can share anything with you, but HI!

I don't know about you but when I was diagnosed just a few weeks ago I found it overwhelming!

But don't worry there is lots of hope for a wonderful, purposeful life... It is not the end

Ask any questions, read extensively and you'll find us very friendly and supportive.

Diagnosed 13/4/16: T2, no meds, HbA1c 53, FBG 12.6, Trigs 3.6, HDL .75, LDL 4.0, BP 169/95, 13st 8lbs, waist 34" (2012 - 17st 7lbs, w 42").

15/6/16: FBG AV 4.6, Trigs 1.5, HDL 2.0, LDL 3.0, BP 112/68, BPM 66, 11st 5lbs, waist 30", PWV 7.0. Lifelong migraines and hay fever gone.

Regime: 20g LCHF, run 1 mile daily, weekly fasting.

Check out this Type 1 section of the form - plenty of friendly Type 1s there to offer help and support

A good book for Type 1s is Think Like A Pancreas. Many of us recommend it. It's got a lot of info in, but is written in a friendly tone.

What insulin regime are you on? It's a big change to start with, but things do gradually get easier.
 
Same. I'm still trying to get it right. Hypo twice in last 3 days after swimming but ribena syrup got me up again in 1 dose. Works like a charm

I'm so pleased to read your carb counting That's crucial to good control because you can match your insulin to your food. Keeping good records is important too, so you can learn how your body reacts. diabetes is a learning process even years after diagnosis.

Diabetes is a pain, but you're not alone
 
Hi @AmandaJ123 welcome to the forum. Sounds like you were diagnosed at the same age as I was. Yes, it can be tricky, but there is plenty of help on here from all of us. Feel free to ask and chat away!
 
I just keep telling myself at least I get a chance to have a go at it, instead of catching something else that leaves me totally defenseless. Em em. Things could always be worse. Gambate my friend!!

Hi Amanda welcome to the forum im 22 and have also been type one diabetic 8 years. Ive learnt so much from joining the forum. I also dont know anyone with type 1 diabetes, feel free to chat away

I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with type 1. I'm on the same system as Amanda.
Just thought I'd say hi.
I'm 32 year old from South coast. Finding it hard sometimes and had my first hypo on the marina wall fishing..... have to say WOW!!!! wasn't ready for that.
And sometimes the carb counting gets a little tedious despite working for 16 years as a fine dining chef (never had to worry about that sort of thing on menus for the resgaurant)

Ribena syrup helps quickly and only need 2 tablespoon of it so easier to carry around than a packet of juice. And you can buy a bottle of it to store in the fridge for a long time and topup your small bottle in bag whenever you need.

I find coke, fruit pastilles and fresh orange juice helps me quite quickly
and they all taste quite nice which helps hehe x
