Hi all..

My name is ann marie and im 36. I dont really know what to say.. lastweek i got told i have type2 diabetes, my mum has type2 aswell for over 10 years now. When the doctor told me i felt ok about it. I had to fix an appointment with the diabetes nurse and start taking Metformin 500mg. After i had been to the nurse and got my tester.. needles...strips...book to log it..tons and tons of papers telling me what im met to do now i still felt ok.. then 2 days later it hit me like a truck
I dont know if this is normal but i feel overpowered by it at the moment. I get upset and just sit crying, i know it sounds crazy but im affraid alittle bit, i suffer with mood swings and can get very very low at times im on Prozac 60mg and that helps abit. I dont know if im just looking for someone to tell me its allright, i just feel so powerless at the moment :cry:
 
Hi Anne Marie.

Welcome to the forum. Have a good look around and take your time. When you are ready if you have any questions a good place to start is in 'Ask the Experts ?' There may already be answers there. If not, just ask.

As for how you feel, this is a natural reaction. We have all been there and have had to come to terms with being a Diabetic. It is a very treatable condition and you can live very well and have a long and healthy Diabetic life. You will be confused and will need answers to your questions. That's what we are here for, to help you. You will get lots of support from the good people on here too.

Hi Ann Marie,

Don't try and take too much in at once, concentrate on looking after yourself for the time being. It'll all fall in to place eventually and you'll probably have a healthier life style than ever before and feel much better about things.

Keep coming back to the forum, it's so useful.

there's a strong possibility that once you have your BG under control, other things like the depression may improve: there's a lot of interconnection between the endocrine system and neurotransmitters.

For example some SSRIs (Seroxat/Paxil and Zispin/Remeron are most notorious) can cause major carb cravings and weight gain, Prozac is less likely to have this effect: it works the other way too, I am now on 1/6 my original dose of venlafaxine since mostly normalising my BG numbers
