Hi everyone my name is Kerri.

I am 32, married with 3 kids aged 6, 4 and 5 months and i would like your advice or opinions please

During each of my 3 pregnancies I have been tested for Gestational Diabetes and each time it has come back clear. Therefore I have never really read up any further about diabetes and the symptoms. However I have just had a bit of a browse on the internet and I have the 3 main signs of diabetes as listed on this site

I have been experiencing some strange symptoms so this afternoon I went to the doctors. The main thing is that I have been having severe hunger pains every couple of hours. It feels like my stomach is about to rumble but instead I get pain going from my stomach to my back on both sides. I have been eating every couple of hours to try and get rid of the hunger pains but they are taking about an hour to go after I have eaten and then they are back about another hour after that! I dont actually fancy food and eating so much is making me feel sick. I have also had a severe headache for the past few days that painkillers have had no effect on.The doctor said that it sounds like I am having hypo pains(?) and does suspect diabetes. I have got to go for a blood test tomorrow morning. The form says GLu amylase and I have to fast for 12 hours before hand. This probably means more to some of you than it does me!

I have come home and had a read online about signs and symtoms of diabetes and I am ticking quite a few boxes. I have been exhausted this week but havent been doing anything more strenuous than usual, I have been drinking like a fish but still have a very dry mouth, I feel very weak and light headed and have thought that I was going to pass out a couple of times, I have a couple of sores that wont stop weeping and heal, I have a cluster of tiny blisters on my foot that I popped because they were painful and now they are very sore and red and angry a couple of days later, the broken veins in my leg have flared up and are hurting whereas they normally give my no trouble, and I have been peeing for England.

A few details that might make a difference.....last week I had a sickness bug that lasted 24 hours, that was on friday. Wednesday I was put on antibiotics by the dentist for a severe infection in my mouth....I was allergic to them so I have been put on different ones...I have been taking co-codamol for the pain as well as ibuprofen and had to take antihistamines for a day to combat the allrgic reaction.

Would appreciate your opinions, advice and words of wisdom please and wondered if anyone else had the same symptoms, especially the strange hunger pains....I had the same pains a few weeks ago but they mysteriously disappeared. This time however it is a LOT worse

Thanks for reading

Kerri xx

Hi Kerri.
Welcome to the forum.

First of all we are not allowed to diagnose conditions on the forum. Having said that you have a few problems which all put together complicate matters. I understand you are having blood tests done which should give you a proper diagnosis. It is best that you wait for that and then we may be able to advise you better.

You have had an infection, you have been on antibiotics, and also taking antihistamines. All of these things can be contributory to messing with your blood glucose levels. There are also side effects, particularly with the antihistamines which may be partially to blame.

My advice to you would be to re-visit your GP and have the problems discussed for a proper diagnosis.

If you suspect diabetes, Get your GP to test you

thanks for your replies. I realise that nobody can give me a diagnosis just was looking for someone with similar symptoms ....I feel so rough and reading some of the info on here is quite scary when you arent totally clued up or even sure what is wrong for certain....even though my blood test is tomorrow I will have to wait 3 working days for the result which takes us to next wednesday and it seems a long time to be feeling scared and worried

Surely if my doctor thought it sounded like a hypo I would have been sent up the hospital for immediate tests?? I always thought that a hypo was a dangerous situation to be in....am I right? Maybe my doctor has mischosen her words....I hope so because I am sitting here waiting for things to go downhill and I think the worry in itself is making me feel worse

Does anyone think I should be comtacting the out of hours service for advice or should I just trust my doctor and wait for blood results?

Sorry to waffle just really worried :?

Thanks, Kerri xx

you may or may not have diabetes but as u are having tests done tomorrow try not to worry but if you get very ill in the meantime , phone nhs direct or go to a & e as i was in a similar position and took ill rather quickly which led to being hospitalised, dont worry but just be vigilant

UPDATE....

have just been for my blood test up the hospital andhave to wait until next week for the results

However I bumoed into my friend who is diabetic and she tested my blood sugar for me. It was 4.4 after fasting for 12 hours. She said it was low but I am not entirely sure how low and if it could have just been because I hadnt eaten or drunk anything but water since 10pm lastnight?? How low is dangerous?

You thoughts would be appreciated thanks

hya kerri,
that is a good level , dont worry about going too low as even if u are diabetic the lows/hypos only occurr if you take medications
let us know how u get on

Well I am not diabetic!!

I have had Candida Albicans which is when the natural balance of the gut flora is disturbed by either antibiotics, pregnancy, the contraceptive pill or stress and depression.....I tick all 4 boxes! I have had 4 lots of anti B's in the past 18 months, I have been on and of the Pill for 15 years, I have had a recent pregnancy and have suffered deppression for 5 or 6 years. The docotr said she thought it was my thyroid but I had it tested about 18 months ago and it was fine. So I thought I would look further into Candida and how it is treated

The symptoms are very similar to diabetes however after reading up about it there are further symptoms of Candida and I have had them all over the past year! I had a list that I took to the doctors of 25 symptoms!!!!!!

it isnt curable by tablets but it can be sorted....The treatment is less carbs and sugar in the diet as well as probiotic drinks and there are various herbal remedies listed on the internet and a few companies selling their own "wonder cures" I took the route of probiotic drinks and yoghurts and cutting down on the sugar and carbs and in a few days I feel like a completely different person....all the symptoms have either gone or are getting better by the day!!

the constant hunger and back pain going is the biggest relief. I no longer have aching joints, no blaoting, excess sweating has almost stopped, thrush is clearing up as well as athletes foot, headaches have gone, blurred vision has improved, tiredness has gone the other way and I am full of beans and havent felt so good for a long time.

thought I would post an update in case others come onto this forum thinking they might be diabetic as this too could be their answer

Thanks to those who took the time to reply to my pasts....much appreciated, Kerri xx

hya kerri,
glad you arent diabetic but sorry you are having other problems,
hope you soon get sorted
take care,
amanda
