I'm type 2. I have been on victosa for 6 months. I lost just under 2 stone but bg not decreasing. So i am about to start insulin, seeing nurse next month dose etc. Dr told me insulin causes weight gain.

Problem/question:- I have eating disorder and only eat 1 meal at night .. Well snack not exactly meat and 2 veg.

A. Do I need to eat more on insulin
B. Do I need to commence low carb diet
C. Will keeping to 1 meal a day solve Wight gain issue .

Any advice appreciated. Apologies if this the millionth time this been asked

Can you tell me, does your doc know about your eating disorder? Are you seeing a specialist or just your GP? I'm not expert enough to advise you but logically it sounds to me that your two health conditions need to be treated together by a specialist who can offer the proper support/guidance and treatment you may need. They may be someone on the forum who can advise you better than me but I wish you well. Sue xxxx

Hi Pcaddc
welcome to the forum :)
it really depends on what insulin regime ?
if a basal ( background ) insulin such as lantus or levemir you may not need to as these insulins are intended to pull down overall blood sugar level in a fairly flat profile over a 24 hour period - what this means to you is if you take lantus and your blood sugar level is 6.0 -- it should stay fairly constant with no eating

we could do with a bit more info as well.

what are your fasting morning BG's ?
any other medications ?

low carb can work with a background insulin such as lantus or levemir -- testing is the key to knowing your blood sugar levels

Thanks for replies . My fasting is 11+. I am bi polar so on anti psychotic medication . I'm seeing diabetic consultant who put me on insulin well next month I start so don't no what type insulin . But your suggestion of 24hr insulin would suit me I think . I will consult with nurse

Hi Pcaddc
thank you so much for the helpful reply
your fasting is a bit high which is why it sounds they want to assist you in lowering it with some insulin. :)
of course you can't know what insulin if it has not been prescribed yet -- don't want to cause you any anxiety with this query.
good idea to have a chat with the nurse -- she will keep you in the loop as to treatment.
I wish you the best of luck -- be well ;)

I didn't gain any weight when I started my insulin the doctors told me I would but I didn't

Hi @Pcaddc , sorry if I'm being a pain but have you told the diabetic doctor about your eating disorder? The way your eating disorder manifests itself will have a really important effect on which insulin, dosage and when it should be injected. The doc needs to know to make sure they don't increase the risk of hypos etc. He shouldn't judge you (but we've all met them :banghead:) so if you're worried about telling the doc, you could try the nurse. Sorry to go on about it hun, Sue xxxxx :)
