Hi everyone,” ..my name is Dee and I have type 2 diabetes. I was diagnosed in 2023 after a trip to A&E with DKA; My HBA1C level was 107 and it would seem that I had (unbeknownst to me) been living with diabetes for quite a while. Fast forward 3 months and with a low carb approach and portion control I’d reduced my HBA1C to 55. It now sits at 39 which is fab but I need some support and guidance in order to bring down my weight down as I’m obviously taking in too much of those low carb goodies and not burning them off

Those are fantastic results, and yes we all battle to maintain them.
As to losing weight, have you lost much so far?
Yes there's portion control and exercise but have you also tried fasting, or at least time restricted eating?
I can't really advise as in similar boat, lowered bg. Lost weight but now both are creeping up even though I eat the same!

Sneaky beastie this diabetes lark !

Yes, I lost 2 1/2 stone and I fast from 6-7pm every evening until 8-9am. I was maintaining the loss no probs until I had an eye injection for DMO that went wrong, I got very depressed and in turn managed to contract shingles which resulted in a loss of another 1 1/2 stone (as I couldn’t keep food down) but once the shingles went my appetite came back with a vengeance and I’m 3 stone up..my BG result is from December so I’m eating all the right stuff, just not necessarily in the right amounts my portion sizes have definitely crept up!

What caused the DKA that took you to A&E in the first instance?

Do you take any medication to help with your diabetes?

So, have you gained the weight whilst on a low carb way of eating?
 
I think it was put down to untreated diabetes for a prolonged period

I take 500mg Metformin twice a day

Yes, I have gained weight following the Keto eating plan, I suppose I’m just not . maintaining a decent Calorie deficit but it’s been great for BG
 
And are you on meds for anything else?
Sorry for all the questions but need to see the whole picture to be able to see why things may not be working for you?
 
No probs..yes I’m on statins for familial hypercholesterolemia which adds an extra degree of worry when having sat fats :( that’s everything x
