hi new here, I am 58 yrs 1.73 mtrs high, I am trying to find out my ideal weight but the information varies widely can you suggest the best place to search.

welcome here :) kattkatu
I´ll tag @daisy so you will get the very fine information that everyone new gets in this forum

when over 55 years old, it is normally considered okay to have a bodymass of about 25, but when diabetic it is a bit better to be under 23 ...as loosing ones bodyfat seems to make a better prognosis for the furture aspects of diabetic adding diseases..
but the far most important is to get ones blood glucose down to a normal level, and most can only do that with a very strickt control of how many grams of carbs one eat every day like under 100 grams a day and the same about proteins..also for men less than 90 grams a day or like 0.8 grams pro kg body weight a day of proteins...

Not a big fan of BMI's personally, I think that body fat % is a better indicator - but it does take a bit more measuring.

BMI isn't perfect by any means for everyone, but unless the person is very tall, very short or an athlete, say, it is a decent starting point, if you have some weight to go.

Whether you elect to go for BMI, a straightforward weight chart or the body fat scale, as Lessci suggests, they almost always come up with a weight range, which tends to be quite wide.

Good luck with it all.

Hi @kattkatu and welcome to the forum. BMI is a good rule of thumb for judging your weight but can be misleading - muscular people are often classified as obese though their weight is due to muscle rather then fat.
Another way to judge whether you are overweight is height/waist ratio. Your waist measurement (not trouser size, but measured at navel level) should be no more than half your height.
Another BMI calculator is a US one which also gives some analysis of the results, though it doesn't take into account the reasons people might want to lose weight:

A BMI chart that only goes up to 97.7kg! Some days every single patient I saw was over that amount.
