Hi everyone i am new here but been type 2 for 5 years now. First of i was food only controlled then onto tablet control. Now tablet has doubled in the last year. Having been on Victoza and other injection with bad stomach cramps. It has now been advised either Forxiga or insulin. anyone been down this route and got experience of the Forxiga route. I understand everyone gets different reactions as we are not all the same. But need to get a "feel" of information before i go onto this one. Testing 3 times a day and levels are yoyo atm. Any advice or info would be great. Thanks in advance

Welcome. Can you describe your diet? What you eat has a profound affect on your blood glucose levels. Also, @daisy1 will provide some basic info that you will find helpful.

I have been on forxiga for over 3 months and it seems to be working well. Many people end up with thrush while on it but if you are following a lower carb diet that should not be an issue. This med works by preventing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys and instead flushing it out through the urine up to about 70 grams per day YMMV. If you eat a lot of carbs you will pee a lot of sugar and feed the yeast that causes thrush. The best advice I can give is cut the carbs. This will help on its own even without meds. There is a ton of info on this site on how to do this. Also a meter is essential as you can't know how foods are affecting you without testing. Hope this helps.

@UncleDee - Hello and Welcome to the Forum :). I took Forxiga for 1 year and I lost nearly 2 stone, it brought down my HBA1C from 82 to 56. But, after 9 months it stopped working and for the last 3 months suffered repeated bouts of Thrush and Burning Urine and so the Diabetologist stopped it completely.
But, a lot of people taking this tablet do well on it. Wishing you good luck.:)
