Hi!!!!!!
I've already put on 2 posts giving off my life story with diabetes before i found this section of the forum... i am soooooo technophobe...
I just wanted to introduce myself as for some weird reason I don't think i know any other type 1 diabetics to talk about things with...
I am 26, going on 27 later in the summer and I was diagnosed when I was 4... I unfortunately had problems when i was diagnosed which required me to be hospitalised for 1 month (over christmas of all times!!!!) and then throughout my childhood was admitted into hospital on a regular basis due to my diabetes.
Had all the usual issues during school in not likeing eating and drinking when noone else was and my head teacher telling my parents I should be in a special needs school because of the disruption i caused by eating in class!!!
After reading somme posts I realise im not on my own with this but i rebelled when I hit my teens!!! wouldnt be bothered testing my sugars, even skipping insulin and not eating when i should etc.
Finally when I hit 17 and met my husband to be that I realised if i wanted to leave home i really should sort myself out and hey presto I took more control (unfortunately still not perfect).
I now have 2 children, my girl 3 years, and my boy 6 months and I successfully had 99.8% perfect control during both pregnancies!!!
Oh yeah i used to work in a call centre and I decided to have a hypo while on the phones so i decided to take a break to have something to eat when 1 of the managers told me to go back on the phone... quite politely I asked her how much she knew about diabetes as there are so many people who know very little if anything... at which she bit my head off because her best friend is diabetic and when i tried to put a complaint in against her it was all hushhushed (ongoing issues with the management of the area i used to work)
Unfortunately I am and have always been hypo unaware (well almost always... for some reason during my 2nd pregnancy i got some awareness back however as soon as my baby was born it disappeared, and i mean as soon as... i had low sugars following day, while in hospital and nothing!!!) and I have nocturnal hypos which always require 3rd party intervention... I feel for my poor husband for this as he has learnt to be a light sleeper, but also i muscle spasm and thrash out so unfortunately he is bruised often
I am hoping that in the next couple of week to be going onto an insulin pump (my consultant said i needed to go on it before i went back to work and thats August so as my nurse said "oh we'd better get it sorted").
I am hoping that I can contribute in the different areas of this forum and also maybe get opinions and advice back!!! It's amazing that even after all these years i can still learn something new when it comes to diabetes!!!!!
