*~ Newbie T2 Waving Hello ~*

Hi Sam and welcome I had the same problems with Metformin and also the same probs with fruit and veg! However, I am learning to like veggies and find Mediterranean veg baked in the oven to be quite palatable. Btw, I also had the same experience with giving up the cigs and changing to a more sedentary job. Think you will find the forum very helpful, I have learned loads already and I'm still fairly new. See you on the threads!

Hi justsam, and welcome:), love madness, but not the side effects of metformin:( as you appear to be borderline diabetic) try lidls full seed rye bread os sainsburys hi- lo bread just a slice at a time and see how you go..........keep posting

Thanks guys. I did an.hours walking this afternoon covering 4 miles, so stepping in right direction on that. Stopped off at dr's to get my readings but i dont think she has given me right things...or i dont know what im looking at lol. The dates dont coincide with my latest results. I think on 7/11 i did the lucozade test..it says 8am -8.2 and 10am - 17.4 the other sheets say serum stuff but i dont know what im looking for.

I went to tesco and bought》
Coleslaw
Beansprouts
Turkey rashers
Mushrooms
No sugar jelly
Eggs
Bacon
Ham.

How did i do for my first attempt?

The shopping list looks good, so far!

What sort of serum stuff? Is it cholesterol etc.? Does it mention an HbA1c test? Weird if you didn't have this, unless you have been asked back for more tests?

Hi @Just Sam

So much information , so much to read about ....
Set small goals for example ...I can't comment on meat or fish , but for vegetables you might like to add herbs or spices ...something to help with the taste ...have a Google ....

You will find in time , not right away that foods that you can't eat now , you maybe able to tolerate a little of. All depends on how you tolerate your food with blood sugars ...

You don't bake, well lots of us do , I use xylitiol as a sugar substititue but there are other choices ...and baking allows you to make something nice to eat ...you won't feel left out ...Google recepies ....and look on this site as well ....you will be amazed ....

I can't say anymore because everyone has said everything and you have the information from Daisy ...

I wish you luck with your new shopping list ....best wishes kat

Thanks so much for your time. Immensely appreciated. Re tests the serum says things like cholestral, sodium, protein etc. There is a haemoglobin A1c test if thats the one? But it says 49(+) but this is dates when i was borderline... so i then had tests 3 montha after but i dont have results for that on these sheets....

Ty @Kat100 you are right its like being back at school and think i have my bedtime reading sorted for a while. And thanks @daisy1 you come highly recommended lol x

Yes, the Haemoglobin A1c is the HbA1c test, and a score of 49 isn't really borderline, it's just within the diabetic range. Over 48 is diabetic.

The sodium, protein etc will refer to your kidney (renal) and liver functions. These are important for diabetics, as are your cholesterol readings.

Look like an A student to me. Well done.

Thanks!! Gonna need to search for more though or this regime could be very boring lol

You are doing just fine. It takes time to get your head around it all, and there is much to be confused about it. With the enthusiasm you are showing, I have no doubt that you are going to find the way to achieve good results.

Keep reading, and posting. Won't be long before you are giving advice to others yourself.

Hi Sam,

Pipp is right, it's confusing, demoralizing, depressing and then things start to fall into place.

There will be some positives you will be able to take from this, won't seem like it but you will start to feel better. You will also discover some foods you never thought you would eat.

Hang in there, stay positive, speak to us on here well all help you..........

Forums are bloody handy places arent they lol... so friendly too! . Ive had a jar of cockles this evening.. my total carb count for the day is 30g.

Hi Sam & welcome.
Just cutting down the sugary stuff & drinks will go along way in bringing things under control. May I suggest talking to your GP about your food problem, if you haven't already, as dealing with this will open up a new world of foods you can enjoy to help with controlling your diabetes.
Good luck on your journey.☆

Good choice and if the cockles were in vinegar then they would lower your blood sugars.

Dont forget pork scratchings if you like them, they make a great filling snack.
Plus metformin side effects will diminish just stick with it unless they are really bad, having them after food not before or with, that worked for me.
