Good afternoon!
I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2012 after being Misdiagnosed with Gestational diabetes in 2010. Unfortunately I got very unwell and my weight plummeted to 7 stone from 10 stone in a short period of time therefore I had the antibody tests and whatnot.
I've briefly self funded dexcom in-between and found I could control my diabetes much better but sadly cannot afford I. I'm on the Medtronic pump supplied by the NHS.
Fast forward to now, after ongoing trauma for 10 years I've gotten to a point where I'm experiencing constant fatigue, tachycardia upon standing and after blood test results come back fine I've just been told it must be my terrible control, hba1c was 94 (around 10.8%) last week, it's not been below 90 since 2013.
I've decided to face this head on, I do have some background retinopathy and nerve pain, I know this won't go away or at least get any better unless I start to change my ways.
I have also battled diabulimia over the years.
I know what will personally work for me, low carbing helps alot.
I haven't seen anyone about my diabetes asides from my yearly eye check since 2015.
Yesterday was the first day I've attempted to control this, I cut out carbs and my levels were between 6 and 14, I usually run in the 20s so I consider this a great thing as opposed to what I'm used to! I did feel hypo at 6.3, but aye 1 glucose tablet and a LC snack and felt better.
This morning on my dog walk I actually felt somewhat alive!
I don't expect perfect results at all, my aim is to slowly bring my hba1c down, ideally I would love it to be in the 5% range! But I'm hoping in 3 months I can drop it to 9% then lower every couple of months, ideally in the new year 8% I would be thrilled at, I understand the risks of dropping it so soon.
The nurse at my surgery suggested I was put forward for the libre, so I'm hoping this helps.
If anyone has any advice or words of wisdom I'm happy to take on board.
As I said I don't expect perfect results, I just want to feel healthier, lost a few lbs, I'm not overweight but I feel cutting out piles of sugar and carbs which is what I've binged on for years will help me feel better in myself.

I would just like to say, “welcome, and well done” for you seem to have your progress plan in place.
Many members find using Libre or other CGM helps with control. Good luck.

Thankyou, I'm on day 9 (I think?!) Of trying to control my levels. They aren't perfect but I'm so pleased with myself they haven't been above 16 since then, it's a record for me (aside from pregnancy)
