Hi Everyone,

I decided to join the forum to learn something more about T2D, since three members of my family have it and I have been given the dreaded warning from the doctor to lose weight else join the rest of my family on metformin. I have taken heed, a few months ago I bought a Diet Plate off this site and have not looked back, 16lbs lost so far to date and not only that an increase in energy and the feel good factor. In fact, from feeling pretty rotten when I saw my GP, I am now feeling quite well if not glowing and can only put it down to what i eat now compared with 2 months ago.

The site looks really comprehensive so I am hoping to educate myself a bit so that I can help my mum and my brother, i am a bit confused though both my mum and me carry too much weight so i can see the reason for the T2D, but my brother takes after my dad and is only around 11stone so I don't understand why he also has T2D - any ideas? Sorry if it is a stupid question.

Genetics seems to be quite a strong factor in type 2 diabetes.

There could also be other reasons. People who have been prescribed steroids are at extra risk of type 2 diabetes for example.
