Not quite sure what you mean really.......I don't think anybody eats 'high carbs', just varying degrees and amounts. . Many of the people on this Forum like myself just reduce the carbs to levels which allow us to control our Diabetes very well. Lose weight easily. Avoid complications.
As to your mention of sugars........
It's not just 'sugars' you need to avoid, diabetes is an inability to process glucose properly. Carbohydrate converts, in the body, to glucose. So it makes sense to reduce the amount of carbohydrate that you eat which includes sugars.
The main carbs to avoid OR reduce are the complex or starchy carbohydrates such as bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, starchy root veg and also any flour based products. The starchy carbs all convert 100% to glucose in the body and raise the blood sugar levels significantly
When you are buying products check the total carbohydrate content, this includes the sugar content. Do not just go by the amount of sugar on the packaging as this is misleading to a diabetic.
So, what one person calls low carbs, could be another person's high carbs and vice versa. Basically if it works for the individual, what difference does it make how many carbs they consume. As long as they are able to control their Diabetes well.....go for it !
There is a 'sticky' in the Low Carb Diabetes Diet Forum entitled, Low Carb Diet - A Newbies Guide. Might help to explain that side of things.
We here don't advocate any particular diet regime.....it's all up to the individual to find what suits them and works well.
