Hi
I am new to here and also to Type 2 and still very confused and anxious about it all.
Firstly i am oversweight 116 kilo even though I have been on a sugar and fat free diet for the last 20 yrs, (Gall stone), eventually removed. so when the Doctor started testing me for hyperglycemia I didn't expect it to be this. After reading lots of info on this site and others I now know that its the Carbs that I have been eating by the ton!!!!.
At the moment, 2 weeks after being diagnosed with an A1C of 6.8% which is only just over the top limit of 6% I am wondering if it is possible that the meds I take for hypothyroidism could be having an effect and pushing me over, and that I don't actually have diabetes?
For some years now I have been taking daily 200 µg of Levothyroxin and have just read that high levels do cause increased Blood Sugar levels.
My Doctor has placed me on Metaformine and am taking 1700mg daily split between breakfast and evening meal. plus he also gave me a Blood Sugar meter which I use 6 times a day and by monitoring my calorie, fat and carb intake I am trying to keep the levels below 180 mg/dl or 10 mmol/L, Still very much trial and error, but at least I now know what to look out for. Will be glad when the side effects of the Metaformine subside.
So I will be watching all postings om all the relevant topics in future to gleam as much information as i can.
Bon Sante a touts (good health to all)
