'Newcastle diet' advice

Hi @Etty - I know what you mean, but I need to see what different carbs do to my BS levels. I plan to eat a slice of low carb bread - made with spelt flour, or one of the two we can buy off the shelves - and see what happens. I do know that I have a low trigger for diabetes (according to my GP) so will need to be careful my whole life, but having reached my target and worked so hard to do it, I am not going to undo all this hard work. But I want to have as normal a life as possible with regard to food! It took me years and years to eat myself to 17.5 stones, and absolutely no exercise, so I suspect it will take some time to sort out what I can eat and how much to maintain both my weight and BS levels. Many people lose lots of weight then promptly put it all on again and more! But this is simply not an option for me.

@Spiker - I LOVE your atavar and imagine you looking like this and cracking jokes in a drole, wry and satirical way. Hope things are going better for you health wise.

Even though I am late to your party may I say congratulations on the weight loss, a fantastic achievement that is absolutely amazing!! Congratulations on getting your health back!! I am curious how much maintenance exercise you are currently doing? To have lost all that weight oh my goodness fantastic. It makes my 40 lbs weight loss seem like I've skiving!

I just go back from the local running track with my daughter and we did 8 x 50 yard sprints.. I couldn't keep up with her (she is much younger) but the distances at the finish lines have become much shorter than back in March. The whole idea of sprints was given to me by fitness coach http://trailjunkie-phil.blogspot.fr/. This is based on the work of Professor Tabata of Japan.

I have had a minor check up recently of
blood pressure etc which came out to 111/68 down from 120 / 80
resting heart rate of 60
total cholesterol was 160 down 42 points from last measurement.
I've lost 40lbs from worst levels since February 2014 my BMI comes in about 27.2 down from 32.8

Please forgive me if I seem like I am intruding on this thread, however I do want to encourage the inspiration of Paulins to continue here. I am not doing a hard core ND but following the spirit of Professor Taylor of making sure that I lose the weight and thus lose the symptoms of T2. I am doing Low carb diet. On other sites that are devoted to diabetes there seems little inspiration to get healthier and get rid of the diabetes symptoms. Some po-po the idea that one can rid oneself of diabetes. Thank goodness for the work of Professor Taylor.

I am doing 6k every day on the treadmill, to maintain fitness and keep the exercise going. I also walk much more rather than taking the car, take the stairs at work - all 4 flights! - and I sit about much less. I have a very sedentary job - lots of books and computers - and could literally be immobile for hours on end. I don't do that for long periods any more. We go for walks at the weekends as well which we did not do before. And that's about it. I plan to keep doing all those things. Now at the stabilisation and maintenance phase of the diet, and gradually introducing different foods to see what happens. But I will never overeat again and I will not snack. That's the plan!
40 lbs is a brilliant weight loss - well done you! I was delighted when I hit 40 lbs and it was an incentive to keep going.

You are allowed to binge @paulins - I do, so you should as well . It is just important to then work it off afterwards . Just have to occasionally do 1/2 kg of peanuts or 200g of turkish delight or even a bag of liquorice as long as it isn't more often than every other day

@paulins you have become a Masai warrior!!

I really had better not say what would happen if I had 500g of peanuts.........

rofl - I'm like that after just one banana

I could well be similar after the Turkish delight, but I might enjoy that to begin with!

Interesting ... a student has just given me a box of Turkish delight ...Now tempted! Does sound naughty @Andrew Colvin - did it do anything to your levels?

So all in all pretty good results even though I shocked my system initially - still pretty destructive so have one piece and not the whole box.

Turkish delight is disgusting stuff. Wouldn't touch it if you paid me.

(Said through gritted teeth in an effort to convince myself)!

I am actually looking at a big box of Turkish Delight with pistachio nuts ... Might just have to open it an put it into the coffee room where it will disappear in half an hour. I work with a lot of very skinny people who seem to eat like vultures! Then temptation will be gone! I have been thinking - If I decided to go for it and be completely wicked what would I eat?

Not bad levels @Andrew Colvin. How is your back?

Back is very good thank you. Back on the treadmill but only managed 2 films this week so not working very hard. Should finish the 3rd tonight (last 30 mins).

I have reached a stable weight now which is 8lbs higher than I wanted and that is only because of my over-indulging. May be my body is driving me to eat 500g of peanuts in a session because it needs me to eat more generally. May just have to do a fortnight of major calorie reduction just to do the 8lbs. Unfortunately I really am enjoying what I am eating and all the different tastes. Decisions Decisions

PS my wife just moans I am too boney now

But, @paulins, you are now a very skinny person too.

Be careful Andrew. I speak from bitter experience! Once I started to muck about testing the limits it was very difficult to stop. Bloods still ok, but weight gain is unabated. I am worried that at any time now I could be finding diabetic BG levels again.

I find if I start carbs, it's hard to stop for the day, Luckily I'm ok the next day when I wake up and can get back on track

Well, lucky you!
It is taking me months! And I am worried.
