I lost quite a bit of weight through the LCHF but have stayed the same for a while.I want to start the Newcastle diet now .

Does anyone know if you can drink diet drinks and eat sugar-free jelly on the Newcastle diet?
:bored::)

When I embarked on the Newcastle Diet(ND) I used the official recommendations of 3sachets of Optifast soup, 2cups of raw or steamed vegetables per day and 1 teaspoon of olive oil. As well, I drank up to 2 litres of water. The trial lasted for 8 weeks originally, but then was continued for another 4.
However, there is a school of thought which maintains that the same benefits will ensue by eating a diet restricted to 800 calories, drinking plenty of water, and a spoonful of oil ( this is to be protective of the gall bladder, I believe). In this case, it would seem possible to eat the sugar free jelly and the diet drinks, but you would have to be careful that ,as well as keeping within the 800 calorie limit, you were also maintaining nutrient levels.
Many people have "done" the ND, on this forum, some more than once. I am sure others will respond soon.
If you Google Newcastle Diet, there will be useful information. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks,I was going to stick to the formula with the 3 meal replacements and vegetables but was hoping it was ok to add those since I hope that makes it easier for me to stick to :)

I'm on my second go at the Newcastle Diet and have two glasses of Diet Cream Soda every day. At only 1 calorie per glass I don't think it makes any difference.
Not sure about the jelly as I don't know the calories involved. Sounds nice though :)

Thanks that's great.We have to give up so much when we become diabetic,it's nice to still be able to have the odd bad habit that doesn't spike our blood sugar :)

I used to have lot of sparkling water as no calories and gives something fizzy to drink. Nd states you can have sugar free jelly as long as you see how many calories are in it and factor it in too in the 800 cals

That's brilliant.I love sugar free jelly and I will try sparkling water,good idea :)
