Hi

I am currently attempting The Newcastle Diet. I am really struggling with the shakes (Asda Measure Up) and wondered if it was ok once in a while to swap the shake for a portion of non-starchy veg (250g)?

Thanks

I am a huge fan of the Newcastle diet, having done it myself. The official trial of the ND did include veg. It was 3 shakes and then 200g of non starchy veg. I actually did four weeks only shakes, no meals, so 3x168 calories a day, then the last four weeks I added a small piece of protein + veg with 2 shakes as I couldn't manage three and a meal. The last four weeks were something like 2x168 + 200 calories for veg = 536 calories a day, so very, very low, but I found it really quite straight forward with a couple of really minor cheats. I have a diary on the weight loss forum that covers my entire journey on the ND. You could try Atkins shakes, which I used, but I recommend slim and save shakes, which unfortunately I didn't find until after I had done the diet.

Good luck and PM me if I can help or support you in any way. Joanna.
