Hello everyone.
I have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I am 44, soon to be 45, and, to be honest, it was quite a shock. I have found this forum and having had a look around i find it to be great help and a little comforting.
Hopefully, with the help of this forum and a change in lifestyle I can keep this condition under control.

Regards

Welcome Giant 68,

It is a shock  isn’t it but when you get to grips with it all hopefully you will find it manageable.
There are lots of lovely people on this forum and a wealth of knowledge to be gleaned from the threads and usually there is always someone around who will answer your questions.

Hi,

I'm a newbie in the same boat as you.

I've made quite a few posts on here in a short space of time so if you click on my profile then read my posts, no doubt I will have asked some of the questions you may well have.

Could save you a bit of time.

hi giant68
I was diagnosed at age 47, though I'd certainly had diabetes for a few years before that. It was indeed not exactly welcome news, but I can tell you that, eighteen months after diagnosis, things are really going better with me. My blood sugar levels have come 'way down to a good level, my cholesterol levels have improved, I lost a bit of weight, and I feel in control of my health now in a way I never did in my life before.
I am on low-level medication (2 Metformin a day plus a blood pressure pill) and have modified my diet. Nothing else is different, really. I still enjoy a drink or two of an evening.
I am an optimistic person by nature and feel that these things can lead to improvements - and thank God I know now that I need to take more active care of myself, rather than just operating on autopilot the way I always did.
Good luck, and ask anything you want, this is a great forum, one of the best resources for diabetes anywhere.
