i'm 12 weeks pregnant and found out last friday i have diabetes. they think i had it from before i got pregnant so are saying i'm a type 2. the last three days i've changed my diet as they said. i'm eating what i'm supposed to, and in portion sizes i'm supposed to. problem is my number are still showing up high, and since changing my diet i'm snapping at everything, feeling lightheaded and my heart is rushing every now and then. didn't feel like this till i changed my diet like they told me. surly this isn't normal? i was absolutly fine before i changed my diet.

It depends on what your diet was and if it was contributing to your high numbers. Keep in mind that making big changes to your diet can cause you to feel uncomfortable even if the knew diet is perfectly healthy, the body does respond to changes very overtly.

It's important to keep your numbers in a healthy range for the sake of your pregnancy.

Perhaps you could tell us what your old diet and numbers were and what your new prescribed diet consists of.

my old diet was fairly healthy. lots of salads, skinless chicken, vegetables, nothing fried. i actually changed to a healthier diet last year and started walking a lot to help me lose weight. it seems to have all started since then! i occasionally have too many roast potatoes about 1/2 a week. but have stopped that. only eat bread about once every few weeks. they have told me to switch to granary bread and only two slices for breakfast. was told a whole meal pitta with my salad would be good, and no more then 3/4 egg size bolied potatoes per serving. i actually had a lower reading a few hours after eating a couple of chocolate biscuits then i have with my new healthy diet.

Many of us have found that eating to the NICE recommended diet has proven to make thing worse rather than better. You may want to consider a low carb diet. I still eat loads of salads and veg, but I have cut out all starchy foods, so no bread, rice, potatoes or pasta of any kind. My BG has fallen significantly since I switched to this about a year ago.

Check out the low carb section of the forum. Theres a lot of people here using this diet and it works really well us.

They told you to increase your carbs?? It at least sounds like your old diet was probably lower carb than the one prescribed to you. Two slices of bread is around 30-40 carbs already. Do you have access to a blood glucose meter? If you still have high numbers I'd recommend sticking low carb for a few days(<50) and see if your numbers improve. If you're unsure of how many carbs you're getting there are various food databases you can use.
