Hi,

My mom has been recently diagnosed with diabetes....that is it was last wedneday her BG was 20.8 then on Friday it ws 26.6 and Friday nite it was 27. Since then her sugar level at nite has never come below 20. Could anyone advise me on the diet...that one should take...what is good and how we can reduce her sugar level...

Welcome to the forum ,Vanumd. Can you give us some idea of what your mother eats? Then we may be able to advise you on changes that may help.

Thanks Sugarless Sue!

My moms's sugar sine the last post that i had, is now under control. We have stoped eating rice, we eat either brown bread or whole wheat pasta. The oil used for cooking too is olive or sunflower monounsutrated oil. She has started eating metformin thrice a day now. Initially she even took cinnamon powder in the morning breakfast. Less salt and no sugar at all in the tea.

However now the weired thingy is my mom doesnt have sugar in her urine. It shows negative in the strips given by the nhs. However when i check her sugar level its between 6-9.

Do u think she really has diabetes. And these NHS are not ready to give me any docs which proves my moms blood test and that she has diabetes.

If her blood sugars have dropped down then she will not show sugar in her urine , you generally only have sugar in urine when blood sugars are very high ,above 10-12 mmol/L and above. It is the blood test which is the best indicator not the urine test.
You really need to get a glucose tolerance test done which will prove once and for all that she is diabetic.
