Newly diagnosed first hypo

Hi everyone hope everyone is well I was looking for some advice

Last Tuesday I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes my bloods have settled at low teens I know not ideal but nurse says it's normal at first

My granda died on Friday and I was in his house today for the first time since
When I came home I felt a bit strange and decided to take my bloods which read 3.2
MY FIRST HYPO

Panic kicked in I ended up take the following
3x lift chews
2 Square of choco
Small drink off in blue and a tea

I know I over reacted but I am new to it all
15 mins later my blood was 9.8 then 15 mind later it was 21.1 then 15 mind later 16.7

Should I take my levemir before bed I'm due to take 8units

Thanks for any help

Your Levemir is your long acting insulin, yes, you should always take it.

In time you'll figure out how much you need to eat to treat your hypo's, overdoing it is very normal and even more so in the beginning!

Are you on Levemir only for now or do you also use a mealtime insulin?
 
Welcome to the forum @Garymacca. I'm sorry your granda has died, and am sending hugs, it's never easy being in the house of a loved one for the first time after they've died. Bereavement is one of the many things that mess with our blood sugar, and when you're focused on something else, it's easy to not think about your blood sugar, especially when it's all so new to you.

Keep reading the posts on the forum and asking questions, you'll have lots, and there's usually someone around who can help. We're a friendly bunch!!

Hi thanks for replying so fast they are now sitting at 15.4 so they are coming down I just went into meltdown I'm sure I'll get used to it over time thanks again great website for info

Thanks for the reply so quickly I'm also on novo rapid for carbs my bloods are at 15 so are coming down I should get used to it through time should I swerve the novo I'm about to eat toast thank

We really can't advice on dosing on here, but why are you thinking of swerving the NovoRapid if you're already on the high side and about to eat?

What dosing advice have you been given by your HCP?

Levemir 8 and 8 taken at least 7 hrs apart and the novo on a 1 unit per 10g carbs the reason I say swerve that is because alot of the stuff I haven eaten are fast acting so I assum thed wear off soon and then I would have cancelled out the carb that I've eaten with novo would run the risk of hypo through the night sorry if that sounds completely nuts I don't really have a clue yet lol
 
Not a bad notion at all, really!
However, it was hours ago you had those quick acting carbs to treat the hypo so I'd follow the instructions you've had as you're nowhere near hypo numbers.
