My husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes while in hospital with pneumonia. He was visited by the diabetes nurse who gave him a libre 2. They don’t know what type of diabetes yet, he has an appointment with the diabetes support nurse next week. The libre 2 is not on his prescription and the doctors are claiming they haven’t been told about it. We really don’t know who to contact or what to do next. Can anyone give me any advice please?

The Libre 2 should last 14 days so your husbands hospital appointment will hopefully come during that time. If not contact the diabetes nurse at the hospital to tide you over. If he is diagnosed as Type 1 the nurse should write to your Gp to sort prescriptions. If type 2 he will be unlikely to get it. You don’t mention insulin. But if he is injecting, hopefully they gave him blood glucose testing strips and monitor too. If so these will tide him over till the appointment without a Libre.

Thank you, he is currently on insulin and being treated as type 1 until they have firm diagnosis. The doctor keeps saying that it needs to come from a consultant, which he hasn’t got, but this is useful advice. Hopefully sorted soon, he’s not enjoying the finger pricking!
