I have recently been diagnosed as diabetic but they arent sure if im type 1 or 2. I take metformin and gliclazide. My bloods range from 4 up to 14. Im not over weight and im only 34. I cant seem to get my bloods down even if i eat just a salad they spike. Sometimes high carb meals make me drop. I get really bad hyper/hypo side effects and feel rubbish all the time. Help!
Have you been given any follow up appointments?
I see too often in the UK that diagnosis comes down to, slim = T1 and overweight = T2.
T1's often undergo a period of rapid onset with high thirst, frequent urination and uncontrollable weight loss but it can also take longer.
Differentiating between T1 and T2 is not always easy but there are some tests that can be done to narrow down the decisions. (I have provide links in the text below)
Although not foolproof, a high presence of
autoantibodies in blood is good indication of T1.
There's something called the
C-Peptide test.
And If you have undergone any rapid weight loss then you'll need to watch out for
Ketones too.
Go back to your doctor (if you can) and ask for a better diagnosis.
We are here to help.
