Hello
I have enjoyed reading all the comments on the forum which have answered a lot of my queries. I was diagnosed with Type 2 about 3 weeks ago when I went for some day treatment at hospital . I had been on holiday and at the end of the second week had a profound thirst, going to the loo in the night a lot and vision problems. My urine sample created a bit of an issue and they tested my blood and found it to be 33. I was admitted straight away and put on an insulin drip for 2 days and then onto injecting insulin. My treatment so far has been very good, I was referred to a Specialist Diabetic Nurse at another hospital and saw her on my 4th day in hospital and again the following week. She gave me all my kit plus a spare and explained the issues to me. I then saw a Dietician at the hospital and will see her again shortly. I have an appointment with a consultant shortly so things have moved fast. My GPs are very supportive. For the first time in my life I feel 'out of control' as my blood sugar is not coming down yet - usually between 8 and 14. I saw the comments about testing before and 2 hrs after eating so will try that. It's all just a bit new at the moment and I know I will get used to it but to be put straight onto insulin was a bit of a shock. However, I now know that some symptoms I had put down to my other illnesses (and so had my consultant hence the day treatment!) were actually diabetes and I feel much better and more active than I have in the last 6 months. I am trying to be positive and will certainly improve my diet and I have started walking for short periods each day. I find the website very useful in particular the video clip which show how insulin works on the body - the phrase 'key' really made it clear to me. Thank you for all the useful information on the forum.
