I am a newly diagnosed type 1 diabetic, as I’ve only been on insulin for around two weeks I am currently on Novomix 30, and have two shots a day. Because I am not on the Basal routine yet I am struggling to find things to have for snacks in between meals as right now I am constantly hungry. Because my levels are still above the normal range I should be in, I am worried to eat anything incase it shoots my levels up even more, people say that you can eat pretty much anything but it’s all about being balanced but then also being told to limit carbs.

I’ve already been living off salad stuff for lunch and snacks and it’s getting a little boring of the same thing each day!

How many carbs should I be roughly having per meal, and what low carb snacks can I eat? I’m a picky eater so I’m really struggling.

Any tips or anything would be helpful since I’m such a newbie!

Thank you!

It is early days so don't try to run before you can walk.

If your BG is high and you are limiting your carb in take, it sounds to me as if your insulin dose is too low at the moment. I suggest talking to your health care team for advice.

Some people with type 1 eat a low carb diet. However, this is not true for everyone so it is difficult to advice how many carbs you should eat per meal. But, for now, if you want to maintain a low carb diet, typical low carb snacks are things like cheese, nuts, pork scratchings and egg based meals (I prepare egg muffins - there are lots of different recipes to google - and heat them up in the microwave later).
