Hi, Bodybuilder here newly diagnosed with Type 1 after a short illness that I thought was flu, until the dry mouth, the rapid muscle loss and Blood pressure through the roof. That was nearly 4 weeks ago, felt like the ground had opened up beneath me, I watched my diet, not as strictly as I used too, a bag of Haribo sours would last me a week and cake was eaten on a Friday in work or birthdays. It also does not run in the family.
But hey ho I now have few new challenges to overcome, I am slowly getting my head around the shock and moving forward, just need to get back into the gym and find out what works for me.
I have had a quick look around here and will be using it as a resource and asking questions going forward.

Hi @Buzz 2 . Welcome to the forum.
You'll find a few fellow type 1 diabetics on the forum who are into body building/ weight training.
Personally I never really ventured down the actual building/ sculpting route, was more interested in strength than appearance.
Have a lot of respect for those that can and do put the effort into bodybuilding.
There is a guy on YouTube called Phil Graham, he's T1 and from what I've seen of him offers some good advice.
You'll have a hell of a lot to learn, not just in the gym but life in general.
As for the gym...... keep your test meter with you and check regularly, keep a record of what your BS levels do during a workout.
Keep some fast acting glucose close to hand along with something carby in case you should go low.
Tell and explain to people you train with about the condition and how to help you should you get in difficulty.
At some point you will have a hypo, it can be scary not just for you but also people around.
I'm not trying to put a damper on anything but forewarned is forearmed.
A hard weights workout will affect for many hours after you stop training so it's imperative that you keep a check on your BS levels. I can go low up to 6 hrs after a workout. Not good if your asleep at the time.
Just a few cautionary tips. I've been T1 27 yrs and I've never not exercised in some way or another. It's the best thing you can do.
Good luck.
Any questions just ask.
There is a fitness and exercise sub forum, which may be a good place to look and post.
