I’ve recently been diagnosed with Type 2, trying to get to know how my body is coping on Metformin so bought a blood glucose monitor (Sinocare) just wondering how accurate it is? Are there particular monitors that people would recommend?

The monitors are all manufactured to the same standards Which is an accuracy of
+/- 15% for 95% of the tests
So in essence the monitors give us an idea of what range our blood sugar is in.
For example if you get a result of 5mmol. You know your actual blood sugar level is somewhere between 4.25 and 5.75 mmol.
Might not seem to be much use but to be honest knowing you exact number at any given time is not that helpful to us.
What we need to know is how our meals are affecting our levels, if we test just before we eat and again 2hrs later the difference tells us how well we have managed the carbs in that meal.
A rise of more than 2mmol at the 2hr mark would indicate that there were too many carbs in that meal for us to deal with effectively.
It's called eating to your meter, when ever anyone tells you that it's ok to eat this or that, let your meter be the judge.
