Newly Diagnosed

Hi all, Just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, it was only found because I had to have a blood test to check whether I was not surceptable (Sp) to hereditary bowel cancer (My dad has just found out he has the dreaded C ), put straight on 80mg Glicazide twice a day. Booked on a DESMOND course on the 25th Jan.(What can I expect to gain from this course, anyone know??), any info would be much appeciated.

Sorry I can't help, I have never ben offered anythign like that. Itr sounds like your doctor is more on the ball than mine is.

I have heard a lot about it on here and it will be intersting to hear what you think about it.

Welcome to the club!

PS we have hereditory bowel cancer in my dad's family as well.

Thanks for the kind welcome chaps and chapesses 8) , just returned from the DESMOND course, I was the youngest (34 y.o.) there, I have got to admit I was impressed lots of useful information given out, done in two sessions the morning session was all about diabetes, the medications available, and other consequences of having diabetes (things like diabetic retinopathy etc etc). The afternoon session was all about lifestyle changes, diet, and having good control over the diabetes. There were a few laughs along the way   , I did acctually find out my HbA1c results which were forwarded from the quacks, a straight 10 % . All in all a very good day was had by all. By the way you can self refer to the DESMOND course (according to (HCP name removed)one of the healthcare advisors). If you can I would recommend getting on one of these courses.
