Hi everyone. Recently been told I am prediabetic. It was a real shock as I considered myself healthy for a 70 year old, walk over 12000 steps every day, weigh 8 st 9. BMI is 22…. but there it is!
I’m waiting to begin a Type 2 Prevention Course but have had 2 months feeling lost and panicky. Advice seems lacking in terms of what exactly to eat.
I’m sure you know what I am struggling with… how many carbs to eat in a day, what snacks are recommended, should I eat more protein…..type of fats?

Sorry to repeat other posts … just basically wanted to say hello

Hello@JeanMR, and welcome.
Prediabetes can be resolved, with some tweaks. I see from your profile that you are not on medication. Therefore it could help if you were to reduce the amount of carbohydrates in your diet. Lots of our members have been very successful in putting T2 into remission by doing just that.

The best way to determine how various foods are affecting your blood glucose is to test using a blood glucose meter. It is unlikely you will be provided one on prescription, but they can be purchased and some are relatively inexpensive .

Here is some info , provided by @Rachox, regarding blood glucose meters.

Recommendation is that you test fasting levels on waking, then immediately before eating, and 2 hours after eating. Keep a record of what you numbers are, and what you have eaten, and you will see how various foods affect your blood glucose levels.

HOME HEALTH have the Gluco Navii, which is a fairly new model and seems to be getting good reviews if you use this link and select the meter plus 5 packs of strips and then add the code dcuk (all lower case) at check-out, you’ll get the meter free. So total cost for meter + 5 x 50 strips will be £31.76.

Links to the strips and the meter for future orders:

There are also discount codes for when you come to buy more strips - "navii5" and "navii10" will give you 20% off purchases of 5 packs of strips and 25% off 10 packs of strips respectively.

Then they sell the older SD Code Free, details to be found here!

Discount codes for the Code Free strips

5 packs 264086

10 packs 975833

If there is a choice of units of measurement then ‘mmol/L’ are the standard units in the UK, ‘mg/dl’ in the US, other countries may vary.

Don’t forget to check the box if you have pre diabetes or diabetes so you can buy VAT free. (for all meters and strips)
