Hello,

I am a newly diagnosed T2 diabetic, 29 Male, 105kg. I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago and decided to make a few lifestyle changes that have been working really well for me personally.

My blood glucose levels were at around 10mmol before meals and 18mmol after meals when I got first diagnosed. Use to eat takeaways daily.

Now it's within the 5mmol before meal and around 9mmol after meals but one caveat. Whenever I eat a meal 30 minutes later I will go outside and walk 40 minutes which has been working really well for me and 90% of the time my blood glucose has been in range now.

I also lost 2kg within those 3 weeks, I feel much better physically and mentally. Who knew high blood glucose affects you mentally? I am also feeling much less hunger as I am eating the right things and no longer crave sweet things!

Hoping to lose weight and carry on with this lifestyle so I can go into remission. If you have any tips or advice please write, I am still learning!

Hello and welcome @Prodigy

What changes did you make to your diet? It sounds like you are on the right track whatever changes you have made.

I have been within the normal range from 3 months after diagnosis. I did it by way of very low carb.

Great work!

Hey VashtiB!

I used to have takeaways, usually one big meal in the afternoons, and then snack on crisps and chocolate in the evenings. Never had breakfast before. Takeaway meals used to be absolutely huge with 2 fries, 10 wings, and a chicken burger plus a whole load of sauces. Or another day it would be 2 separate curries with 3 large naans.

Now I have opted for healthier alternatives, I have totally reorganised my freezer and prep every 2 weeks, and my meals are all ready to be cooked within 15 minutes inside a air fryer

A normal day now includes 2 wraps/pittas with chicken, yoghurt, cucumber, and spring onions. I bulk with cucumber and spring onions, so I feel fuller for longer as they're lower calories.

Or I'll have cod fish with vegetables all air fried for convenience and not much oil either!

I use several spices, so I never get bored from the same wrap or fish, and they taste 10 times better than a takeaway! I've replaced the four coffees I had with 3 sugars in a day for diet coke and I'll have that once or twice a day. (Though I recognise they aren't great it's better than having coffee and I feel great!)

.... I feel much better physically and mentally. Who knew high blood glucose affects you mentally? ....
Before I was diagnosed with T2, for several years I suffered from dreadful brain fog, which I discovered in retrospect was due to the unwanted very high carb diet I was eating during this time. On diagnosis I was able cut the carbs back down again and currently eat a low carb normal fat/ketogenic style diet, and my brain is back to normal. Our brains can in part run on ketones for fuel as well as glucose, and mine much prefers to do so.

Brains run like thoroughbreds rather than cart horses on Ketones, and the small amount of Glucose they need is easily provided by the liver.
