Hi,
I have never been on forums before but a week ago today I took my daughter down to a & e as she was really unwell - it was here she was diagnosed with Type 1. I have been through all the feelings of guilt as I didn't spot it sooner - I just put it down to tiredness due to Xmas. We came home Xmas Eve and my daughter is doing well and the support we have had is fantastic. I'm just trying to get my head around carb counting and can't believe there isn't a calculator available ... is there..have I missed it? It would be great to get some feedback from others as to what to expect in the future. At the moment I am analysing everything and our day is ruled by testing blood and insulin pens. My daughter is doing fantastically well and is doing the tests and the pen by herself.

Hi AgieC and welcome to the forum, sorry to here about your daughter coming down with T1. Rest assured that the forum members on here will support you in your questions. If you have excel on your p.c. i have a spreadsheet that you can log your daily results in, it also has a list of over 350 carbs of different food lists plus a built in Hbac1 converter. If you are interested please message me your email address and i will send you a copy.

Hi and welcome. Alot to take in, remember like yesterday for me. Not your fault, not anyones fault, thats the first thing to understand. You will learn as will your daughter learns dos and donts. I know I had the start of it for at least 3 years prior to diagnosis!!! Thing is with type 1 can get to a critical point before the obvious signs and relevant tests are carried out.
Work closely with your team and feel free to ask any questions here.
