Last week was an interesting one. I had my first appointment with the dietician at the hospital which I had been debating whether to attend or not as I have clearly not been following the dietary advice of eating 'brown' carbs with every meal and following the LCHF diet as advocated by the good people on this forum :0) I took a very detailed food diary for the previous 3 days with me. The dietician I saw was a student and very nice. She was interested in my carb free diet though she was keen for me to cut down on the cheese and replace whole milk with skimmed. However the qualified dietician who was also in the room told me that I had to eat carbs otherwise my brain wouldn't function and that all fruit, including bananas and grapes, were ok to eat. The day after this I went for my first Hba1c test since diagnosis and it has dropped from 67mmol to 45 with a BG reading of 4.9%. I will be happy to share this with them at my follow up appointment in July! Whilst I'm pleased with these results I know there is a way to go and I was a bit disappointed not to have lost more than 3kg in 2 months. Am thinking that I need to cut down on portion size (although it is mainly veg!) and up the exercise.
Anyway, thanks to all those on this forum who offer such great help and support. My first 4 months of being diabetic have been revolutionary and I'm now feeling far healthier than I have been for years!

67 down to 45 is a mammoth effort..it's a shame you didn't eat the carbs because it would be 33....the dietitian is right, you know you are brain dead like a lot of the LCHF'ers now.

the dietitian is right, I only eat fruit now..I'm a fruitarian and my BG is wonderful..and I have a friendly meter to greet me..it always says HI .

That fatty cheese and full cream milk will clog your arteries and are about to have a heart attack at any moment. did you tell her about real butter and olive and coconut oil?
ask to see the results of your lipids blood test

Well done on your results! I have seen the info on hflc and it prompted me to read palleo diet and various others, leaving me a bit curious about the fat/cholesterol thing, after all we have been told to cut fat for so long. Would you mind sharing how your cholesterol faired in your change of diet? Maybe pm me if you wouldn't mind? TIA

Thanks for your insightful and helpful comments. You have prompted me to rethink at least some of the comments in my post. All results from my testing were within 'normal' range so I guess I'm good to carry on with what works for me.

never take anything at face value, always do your own, for and against. If you go against 'HCP wisdom' you need to make sure there is a very good reason to do so.
statin is a drug of dispute..the net is full of why you shouldn't take it...yet I have chosen to take a low dose.

I suspect the cheese and milk was a general 'eat low fat' but as an observation, there seems to be a lot of dairy fats eaten and little olive oil by the UK LCHF'ers, I think there needs to be a wider variety of mono/sat fats. I just stay away from grain oils.

I don't think the "you need to eat 130g of carb because that's what your brain needs a day" to be justified how that is wrong. but you can google it is you want to.

for a T2, fruit and juice need to be reduced because of the fructose. a normal person converts 3% of glucose to fructose through the polyol pathway, whereas I can convert up to 30% and it can overload my liver and goes to fat.
