NHS Constitution

Hana and I spent a day, courtesy of DUK, giving feedback to the drafters of the NHS constitution. Today, that constitution was made public. The intention is to identify the entitlements and responsibilities of the NHS itself, their staff, and, of course, us.

Until the PCTs are forced to fulfil their obligations according to this constitution, it will remain as useless as the Patients Charter. I haven't had opportunity to go through the document in any detail, but will spend some time overnight comparing it with the version we saw back in September.

I haven't seen the final version, but from the draft you flag here, I would say that one very glaring gap is the lack of any recommendation that medics base their 'treatment' on the established evidence....
