I know of many friends and family who have wasted a vast amount of NHS funding, by their failed stop smoking endeavours. The NHS gives out an enormous quantity of free aids in the form of nicotine patches, mock smoking devices, chewing gum and other items, but the success rate is very low. My brother in law attended one of the new stop smoking courses and was given all of the above free of charge and will continue to do so.
On the other hand, what I get from the NHS is a low cost Metformin supply and the odd blood test.
I would love to hear from a NHS policy maker as to why diabetes is so low down the NHS pecking order at a time when diabetes is bursting the epidemic flood gates?!!.

PS I purchased my blood tester from Lloyds chemist and buy my strips and lancets from ebay as the NHS have refused to prescribe....

Regards Steve.

I have moaned about this self-same thing. Now if I were a heroin user, I'd get Methodone as well.
I think we should campaign for failed "stop smokers" to pay back the money they've used. After all they chose to smoke, I didn't choose T2

I'm quite happy for other people to continue smoking, just as long as they don't do it around me! I also don't want too many of them to give up: the annual cost to the NHS for treatment of smoking-related disease is around £2billion. The revenue acquired by the UK government each year in tobacco duty is almost £10billion...
