I am a recently diagnosed T2and diet controlled at the minute, although that may change shortly. My GP has referred me to dietietics, podiatry and an annual eye check by the mobile screening unit.
From reading through the different posts online there seems to be conflicting opinions on free eye tests, prescriptions etc.
Can anybody tell me if I am entitled to free eye tests at my local opticians or only to free retinopathy screening? If I am entitled to free eye tests, am I also entitled to NHS vouchers towards the cost of glasses?
What about dental treatment - do diabetics qualify for any NHS dental treatment?
I'm lucky that in Northern Ireland we don't have to pay for prescriptions at the minute. There has been talk of a charge being reintroduced which will be a pain, as well as being expensive. I am off work on long term sickness, SSP has finished and I receive £105 Employment & Support Allowance per week which just about feeds the family. Any entitlement to free NHS sight testing or dental treatment would be a great help.
