Type 2 Night shifts

I work weird shift patterns where it’s 2 12 hr days followed by 2 12 hr nights , I’m type 2 and can keep my sugars in check when working through the day and when I’m off. I struggle with night shifts tho as I don’t get much sleep when I get home the next day and it always seems to keep my sugars slightly elevated until I have a decent nights sleep when I’m on my time off , does anyone have this issue and are there any work arounds anyone knows off ?

I have researched this extensively and the consensus is always that its very hard to maintain BGs when you have abnormal sleeping patterns. If you can not switch the job, the best way is to take your food with you to avoid any high carb food while at work. Night shifts probably affect because of missed timing in release of your growth hormones and confusing caused to your liver about when to release stored sugar in the blood.

Hi there, I work similar night shifts albeit I approach it differently to a type 2 (only because of insulin). What food do you eat on your shifts and what numbers are you seeing? x
