Hi folks
for several months now, since my hysteretomy, Ive been woken up by ghastly night sweats all occurring at around 5am. They get worse for about a week and then subside. I initially thought it was down to my age and 'the change', but now part of me is gone for good, Im curious as to why I am getting these sweats?

Im type 2 and was diagnosed last August. Is it too long between tea time and breakfast and my sugar levels go down, or should I reduce my metformin at teatime to compensate?

If the ovaries are removed during hysterectomy, the woman experiences a "surgical" menopause which may included symptoms of night sweats. If the ovaries are left in place, menopause occurs later when the ovaries eventually stop functioning. If symptoms of menopause are troubling, HRT may be prescribed. It's worth discussing this with your GP.

The human race may have evolved but we are all still prisoners of our hormones.

It sounds hormonal to me, but to rule out blood sugar you need to test yourself when you are having these sweats. Otherwise you will never know for sure. Meanwhile, until you have tested your BS I wouldn't recommend any special action. If it is blood sugars it could be high ones or low ones. Both can cause sweats.
