Hi guys, I'm a t1 for 8 yr and relatively stable. Happy away on 26 Levimir 8am and 8u at 10pm with novo inbetween. Just this last few weeks I'm stuck , 8 u sees my sugar rise steadily through the night sometimes from 2am and sometimes from 4 resulting in bg 17 !! so rightly or wrongly I get up and shoot a few units of novo ... I've adjusted my nighttime to 9 u and guess what ?? by 4am I'm down to 4 so have to get up and have a small amount of carbs. 8 or 9 that is the question ...what's going on ?? Can anyone come up with something please ??

I used to be on split doses of levemir, with regular night time hypos.I was changed to tresiba,i find it much more stabilising.Just one injection in the morning instead.
Maybe you could find out about tresiba and if it would be suitable for you.
Meanwhile you could try lowering your morning levemir dose but i would speak to your nurse/doctor for informed advice.Good luck.

Why u takin 26 in morning but only 8 at night, both 12 hour periods.....try upping night time more...personally i wouldnt be havin novo at night to bring it down.....i know we all different but i take 32 at 8ish in morn..42 at 10ish at night.....hope u figure it out

Have you done any basal testing? Here is a guide on how to do it - https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/

Have you noticed any dawn phenomenon before? Dawn phenomenon is a combination of your liver increasing its glucose release to get you ready for the morning and an increase in hormones (cortisol etc) that are counter regulatory to insulin as they increase blood sugar and make you insulin resistant, to wake you up. Maybe th colder darker mornings have made your body decide you need a boost to wake up, it's just the boost has resulted in DP for your blood sugars.

If you can't get a basal dose sufficient to deal with the DP rise without sending you hypo before the rise then it's not that uncommon to to a bolus correction in the early hours for DP. @donnellysdogs may have further info on this. But, obviously, it's not ideal for you know having to be awake through the day to be having to do this. So alternative basals may help. The thing that really helps with dawn phenomenon is a pump where the basal dose cand be adjusted to suit exactly what you need. For now though you need to remember that nocturnal hypos are really to be avoided, so if 9units is causing hypos then that's too much.
