hi all,at the moment my head is spinning.i was carefree untill last week.now i dont know whats going on,what do i eat, what dont i eat, everything i read is confusing, contradictive.im only a plasterer for god sake not a scientist.needto know the basics not all this bamboozle.my doctor has told me nothing.sorry for being angry!!

Hi Midge
Dont panic mate thats just how I felt when I got the bombshell of DB not me I dont do "ill" the only advice I got at first from GP was plenty of fruit and veg but not melon or mango."HELLO" What is that supposed to mean ?
Take a deep breath and read the advice that Sue posted for you in the earlier post there are lots of good things that you can eat ,meat eggs cheese most veg and some fruit. There is a carbohydrate counter on the web( Google it) You can get a grip .Some booze is ok for diabetics ,red wine and whiskey are ok in moderation so if you do enjoy a drink get yourself a glass and relax.

thankyou.at the moment its a bit of a shock,i dont do ill neither.it seems like i have to take on something i dont want.i actually brew my own wine, beer and lager, not really a big drinker and i give most of it away, like chocolate though.not touched any though!!

Midge.
As Carol said you need to relax a bit. Take time to have a read of the info that my pal Sue has posted for you and digest the info a bit at a time. If there is anything you are not sure about then ASK.......we will explain it in terms you can understand. There are only a few members who might have a science degree....in the main we are all just plain and simple Diabetic's........some more simple than others so I'm told !!

We all were where you are once and it is very confusing at first. We all want to help you, we can help you. Just stay calm.

Having had type 2 diagnosis for over 10 years the best advice I can give you is to eat low glycemic and forget all the other cr*p like carb. counting. Go to a large bookstore or order on the interet a book on glycemic index and glycemc loads. Try to eat mostly foods under 55 on the glycemic index. So most fruits and vegies, all meats and seafood, even some breads are made to be low glycemic. Pasta is not too bad if you add meats and vegies. The things to stay away from are starchy vegies like potatoes, turnups, carrots, etc. Most breads, potatoes, sweets, are high carb and high gycemic.

Most important is to get a blood testing meter so you can learn if you're eating right or not. All diabetes drugs are toxic so diet and exercise will help cut down how much drugs you need (or don't need) to take. The fewer the better.. It's eating too highly processed carbs. which spike our insulin that causes insulin resistance and eventually your a type 2, just like the rest of us here. So get crackin! A really good book on type 2 is called Releasing Fat by Dr Ray Strand. Order it on Amazon.com.

That might work well for you but it wouldn't for me. I can't eat pasta at all, I can't eat many fruits without spiking my BG. But I can eat some potatoes!

The meter is very important because we are all individuals and need to work out what effects us as indivuduals.

The glycemic value is important but so is the total carb amount. I can eat pulses in resaonable amounts, without damaging my BG but can't eat them unrestrictedly even though they are low GI.
