I am non diabetic and I have recently been diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia and I am struggling with 1am - 3am sweating and shaking. No matter what I eat in the day, no-carb or low-carb I get sweating and shaking in the early hours of the morning. I have tried no pre-bed snacks, and a number of pre-bed snacks and I still get the 1am - 3am roller coaster. Bellow are selection of my tested pre-bed snacks:

a tablespoon of peanut butter + a tablespoon of cottage cheese

1 slice of rye bread with avacado

1 boiled egg

1 glass of full fat milk

However none of these snacks work to stop the shaking and sweating.

Has anyone had similar experiences and were you able to stop the early morning sugar crashes?

Cheers

A while back I was continuously going low at night, around the 3am mark. My blood sugars were dropping to around 3 Mmol/Ls sometimes high 2s. My CGM alarm was constantly going off. I do not have Reactive Hypoglycaemia. My Dr and DN advised me to eat a light carb meal, about an hour before I went to sleep. It worked for me and my night time hypos pretty much stopped. As I said my hypos were not caused by an overly enthusiastic pancreas, but adsorption issues from coeliac , so I’m not sure how eating a small amount of carbs would work for you, but I do note the foods you have mentioned are mainly protein and fat.

Hello,

Thanks for replying.

Can i ask what light carb meal you have?

Also when eating this pre-bed snack did your hypos stop pretty much instantly or over a number of day?

@DayDreamer84 I varied it, my Dr recommended a small sandwich, but I would vary it. Sometimes I would have a couple of squares of milk chocolate. It worked pretty much straight away from my recollection. It was several years ago now. Of course, I don’t have RH so my pancreas doesn't overshoot with insulin, but it did work for me.
