No added sugar squash

Hi, the only one that is remotely palatable so far is Ribena No added sugar. However, it is £3 a bottle near enough!

I have tried other good brands such as Robinsons but I cannot stand the aspartame taste and this is causing me a real problem. I don't drink alcohol at all so squash or coffee are my drinks of choice, sigh.

Has anybody else any idea what own brand blackcurrant squashes are akin to Ribena? Pretty please!

There's one called C-Vit Blackcurrent Squash which is very nice and no added sugar.

I buy the Tesco own brand Double Concentrate squash. Some really nice flavours. and it's pretty cheap!

Thanks, will try both of those. I have always hated artificial sweeteners so being diagnosed with diabetes was my worst nightmare. I don't like fizzy drink and never drunk them but I will occasionally have a Pepsi Max or Coke Zero now just for a change. I just love Sainbsury's summer fruits squash but the no sugar ones are vile. Harrumph.

the robinsons no added sugar barley orange is very nice I love it I drink it all the time it doesn not have the horrible after taste of artitificial swetener

The C Vit is great, wasn't easy to get hold of but found it in our 24 hour Tesco and at a pound cheaper than Ribena a great alternative.

I don't like squashes as I find them too sweet and like you don't like the taste of low sugar but since most of the other drinks are now no-no's, I have found 2 drinks that I like. One is the sparkling flavoured water from Sainsbury's and the other is their diet cream soda. Neither seems to have a strange diet taste and suits me.

I prefer the high juice ones, usually tesco's blackcurrent. Vimto is OK too.

Hi-juice = Hi-sugar. (Much higher than sugar free).

That diet cream soda is bl00dy lovely! I also like their diet shandy. (I didn't think shandy could get any wimpier - but apparently it can!) :lol:

For me they are - because they are ONLY no ADDED sugar. Juice is NOT low in sugar, so how can something that is HIGH in juice, be low in sugar?

Tesco's 45% blackcurrant high juice with no added sugar contains 2.4g of carbs per 75ml.

I suppose it all boils down to your attitude towards sugar. If you think it is something that is best avoided, given the fact that you are diabetic, sugar free is the way to go. Thi si my attitude to sugar.

If you think that sugar is to be enjoyed, and you want to eat/drink as much as you can get away with, you'll need to be more careful with QTY's.

Why have a small glass of hi-juice once a day, when you can drink all the suagar free squash you want throughout the day? 8)

Most Morrison's stores stock C Vit and I've also seen it in my local Asda.

Hi, it is Morrisons where I normally shop but we have a pathetic, weedy little effort here in Yeovil so I guess it isn't one of their lines. Will check again tomorrow though.

I suppose depending on the size of the store they cannot possibly stock all lines of squash.

I tryed tesco no added sugar high juice 50% juice black currant and its so nice infact I could not distinguish any difference in taste between this and no added sugar ribena.
and it only cost £1.28 I wont be bothering to buy my barley orange anymore this is so much nicer.

What about the flavoured waters that you can buy? They are low in sugar, not too sweet and don't taste too bad. Although I'm not sure they'll be cost effective. Otherwise plain mineral/spring water with a slice of fresh lemon or lime and some ice cubes?

I love flavoured waters Sophia and buy Tesco's own - 3 x 1 litre bottles for £1.20- not at all expensive - there is loads of flavours - I particularly like the grapefruit and the lemon and elderflower - bit more grown up taste - but they also do strawberry and a peach one which are a little sweeter - kids would love these.

I also have a liking for Tesco's own no added sugar Mexican lime squash- quite sharp and very refreshing

Anyone guess where I do most of my shopping :lol:
