Hi all,

Just returned from Denmark, visiting family and friends. Everyone amazed how well I looked etc etc., so all very nice and friendly.

A couple of Mum's friends are diabetic too and they gave me this website for some excellent sweets, which are supposedly BOTH sugar and carb free as well as Low GI!!

http://www.fribol.com

Any of our experts wanting to check out the website and offer an opinion??

Just curious about this product, as it seems great although I have not tried it myself, I have been told that it is good. Just thinking it would be a nice thing to have around, especially if one have kids.

Cheers
Alice

Hi Alice, just had a look here,

http://www.fribol.com/friboluk_012.htm

There is some carb in the ingredients ,I'm not certain just what it means though when it says 'Carbohydrate:94g ( some countries Carbohydrate = 0)' it also mentions polyols which can have you sat in the loo for quite some time. Any chemists out there with more informed info.

Can people with diabetes use sucralose?

Yes. Clinical studies have shown that sucralose can be safely consumed by people with diabetes. Sucralose is not recognized by the body as sugar or as a carbohydrate. It is not metabolized by the body for energy and does not affect blood glucose levels. Sucralose has no effect on blood glucose utilization, carbohydrate metabolism or insulin production. Products sweetened with sucralose provide good-tasting, lower-calorie alternatives for people with diabetes who are interested in reducing their caloric or sugar intake. As with any nutritional concerns, people with diabetes should consult their doctor or diabetes healthcare professional for advice on an individualized dietary plan.

Polyol Laxative Threshold Value
Maltitol 60 g
Erythritol 40
Isomalt 29
Lactitol 24-50
Sorbitol 23
Xylitol 20
Mannitol 10-20
Adapted from Levin et al. (1995)1
When you consume polyols, read labels carefully, and pay attention to
quantities consumed. Your results may vary, for the reasons discussed above!

Hi Alice,

Some people can have "digestive issues" with polydextrose, so take it easy the first time out.

Can't see a uk stockist for these, a pity as i wouldn't mind trying a few :)

Thought i'd drop the company an email just to inquire if they sold to the UK, this is the reply i recieved.
Dear Phillip
Thank you for your mail.
Our products is sold on all Pharmicies in Norway and Denmark, some in Finaland and some in Germany. Unfortunately no one has shown any interest in UK.
The product is about 10 years old and dedicated to Diabetics.
In Denmark we are not allowed to label it 90g fiber (yet) and therefor we have to label it 90g Carbohydrates. We just made new bags for the product, and here we write 90 fibre product.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to write
Best regard
