Anonymous question submitted:

I have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic and was prescribed metformin (500mg twice a day). After taking this for 3 months there was no change in A1c. anyone else have the same problem? does this mean the cause of my elevated blood sugar levels is not insulin resistance?

Hello,

Unfortunately you can't rely on Metformin alone. It does very little to lower blood sugars. It helps to reduce insulin resistance, appetite, and the production of glucose from the liver, but all to a small extent. It isn't a miracle cure. The only way to lower BS is by diet and maybe added exercise.
